All in-service training requirements are met on campus in our popular classroom café restaurant.

Sit back and relax at The Classroom Café Restaurant with a platter of assorted handcrafted meats and cheeses with artisanal bread or enjoy wood-fired pizzas with our premium craft beers.

The 1000 Hills Chef School is the only culinary school in South Africa that incorporates the art of brewing into our curriculum, and second-year students learn a number of artisanal production methods used in creating all the produce that is sold in our deli.

SPECIALISED CHEF

Master French cuisine, focus on creating magnificent cakes, or become a sushi expert-excel in your chosen culinary field. This career path allows you to create signature dishes that showcase your mastery.

HEAD CHEF IN A RESTAURANT

Ascend to the top of the kitchen hierarchy as a head chef in a restaurant. This role empowers you to lead kitchen operations, devise innovative menus, manage a team, and shape the overall culinary direction of the establishment.

CRUISE SHIP / YACHT CHEF

Prepare delectable meals for passengers or crew on a cruise ship or yacht. This role enables you to cater to diverse tastes, experiment with international cuisines, and create memorable dining experiences against the backdrop of stunning seascapes.

PRIVATE CHEF

Embark on an exclusive culinary journey as a private chef. Whether on estates, or personal residences, this career lets you curate bespoke menus, tailor dining experiences, and cater to the unique preferences of your clients.

FOOD STYLIST

Combine your culinary skills with an eye for aesthetics as a food stylist. This career lets you curate visually stunning food setups, capturing dishes in their most enticing forms for advertisements, cookbooks, and social media.

FOOD BLOGGER

Take your culinary exploration online by becoming a food blogger. Document your gastronomic escapades, review eateries, and share recipes, allowing you to connect with a global audience and express your culinary opinions.

RECIPE AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT

Fuel your creativity by venturing into recipe and product development, such as collaborating with retailers. This career allows you to conceptualise, test, and refine recipes and food products for mass consumption, influencing the tastes of a broad consumer base.

You must be between the ages of 17 – 28, outside of this range by special arrangement, and have a clear passion for food. It is preferable to have at least a Grade 10 certificate, and you must be able to communicate clearly in English. Students are only accepted after a personal interview, so apply as soon as possible to start the process. No specific subjects or points are required.

Our acceptance process involves an interview with our Principal, Chef Jade Van Der Spuy. Both the learner and parents or guardians must attend the interview. These can be arranged from Wednesday to Sunday by appointment.

Acceptance fee to be registered for 2025/2026 years: R61 000
International course registration for all qualifications over both years

2025 Foundation year fees inclusive of: R158 000
Ingredients – all ingredients used in classes, examinations
Tuition – for three diplomas facilitated by qualified chefs
Examination fees (there are five exams in the foundation year)
Full uniform provided, embroidered with name on jackets
Three full sets, scrub down jacket, safety shoe, warm jacket
Equipment – 8pce Wustoff knife set engraved with your name
Additional courses and classes included (Basic Fire Fighting , Level 1 First Aid)

2026 Advanced year fees inclusive of: R150 000
Ingredients – all ingredients used in classes, examinations
Tuition – for the advanced diploma facilitated by qualified chef
Examination fees, Advanced diploma, WSET1
Full uniform provided, embroidered with name on jackets
Three full sets, scrub down jacket, safety shoe, warm jacket
Equipment – various items required for advanced pastry course
External courses offered & excursions where applicable (Beer brewing, Asian style Cuisine, WSET 1 Wine, Coffee Barista)
